crook

i'm crook. bronchitis.

the doctor told me this. as an asthmatic i was a bit 'blah, whateves'.

I googled it – swollen, gunk-filled airtubes. less air makes it to your lungs. ok, i've got antibiotics, i'll be good. better get back to work.

i told my manager, she then spent 10 mins telling me how sick her brother and mother got with bronchitis.

i mentioned it to my client, they looked at me aghast and told me to get home to bed, bronchitis could turn into 'much, much worse'. pleurisy even.

I told my colleague, he's man of few words, on this occasion those few words were 'you should be home in bed, not here'.

i'm now home. off work. thinking... when did i become so blaze about not being able to breathe properly?

is that a change in your pocket?

i work in internal communications. what this means in general terms is that i help people in an organisation make sense of the change that happens around them. in short, i deal in change for a living.

But when i think about, i don’t just deal in change, i live change. in the last 5 years how many times have you moved house? me – 5 times. jobs over the last decade? me – 13. for me, new equals exciting. i crave change. i love the excitement a new place brings, the adventures new people create. i look for opportunities to change as if paradise is just one change away.

but others are completely different. and they’re happy. they seem to like the sameness. for them, less change is more.

so... is change a cage or is the cage when we don’t change?

time to fly. time to say thanks.

i'm typing this in the same room i typed by first year-8 assignment, creatively entitled my first assignment. at the time, paul keating was aussie p-m, i'd never been kissed and i was using the word processing software, first choice. things have changed a bit since then... a lot since then... but home has always remained home.

i've just spent 3 amazing weeks in my home country. i've worked it in brissie's newest bar-cum-club-cum-place-to-be, cloudlands; have been accussed of stealing an ovary whilst staying in melbourne; danced to mr g in sydney; and tanned-it-up on the gold coast. i've also introduced piero to lots of the people that matter. it's been an amazing trip and somewhat grounding. but the best bit really has been the people.

i have such amazing peeps in oz. seeing, laughing and having fun with then again has been nothing short of fantistic.

thanks to the aussie crew for a brill 3 weels. until our paths cross again: stay safe, keep it real and remember l-u-m-i.
